Dhufar is another member of the United Arab Emirates, who issued this stamp in 1984. The emblem in the bottom right is the Rotary International. Fairly common.

This nifty stamp was put out by Gambia in Africa, I think in 1993. The Gambia is a long and narrow country in West Africa that parallels and takes in both sides of the Gambia River. It is surrounded by Senegal on all sides, except on the Atlantic coast, and for this reason the two countries have a lot of ethnic and cultural ties. In contrast to Senegal, a former French colony, The Gambia was colonized by Britain and gained it's Independence on February 18, 1965. This stamp came from a set that contained a number of breeds, all with the front-facing and side headstudies. Fairly common.

Gambia also put out the most unique set of "Royal Dogs" in 1993, depicting the pets of royalty around the world. The one on the left is a Welsh Corgi that belonged to Queen Elizabeth II and the one on the right is a Welsh Corgi that belonged to HRH Princess Anne.

Grunay is a Scottish local post in Skeoris, Shetland Island. A local post is an independent mail system not operated by a Postal system. If local post stamps are used on envelopes that are to be mailed outside the local area they also must bear official postage stamps in order to be delivered. The most northerly part of the British Isles, Shetland comprises over 100 Islands of which fewer than 20 are inhabited. Grunay is largely uninhabited. This Pembroke Corgi was issued by Grunay in 1982. It was put out as a mini-sheet with 6 various breeds.

the year 2002 marks the 50th anniversary of Her Majesty The Queen抯 Coronation in June 1953. For centuries, Kings and Queens have been crowned in Ceremonies to formalise their position as Sovereign. Since Queen Elizabeth 憇 accession on February 6 a year earlier, this day had been planned in great detail. King George VI had been the last monarch to be crowned on 12 May, 1937. Sixteen years later, people gathered together to watch the Coronation of his eldest daughter, Elizabeth, as she prepared to take part in the very ceremony she herself had watched as an 11-year-old girl. On 2 June 2003 a church service was held at Westminster Abbey to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Coronation. Her Majesty was the thirty-ninth Sovereign to be crowned at Westminster Abbey. The Queen, with The Duke of Edinburgh, was driven from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey in the Gold State Coach, which was pulled by eight grey geldings. The all-white Coronation Bouquet comprised orchids and lilies-of-the-valley from England, Stephanotis from Scotland, and carnations from Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man, with additional orchids from Wales. The Duke of Edinburgh wore full-dress Naval uniform for the journey to and from the Abbey. While in the Abbey, he wore a coronet and his duke抯 robe over his uniform.
The last stamp in this group of 5 has 2 corgis on the bottom right of the stamp. They are barely distinguishable. However, any picture pertaining to the Queen will definitely have her ever present Corgi抯. The detail is enlarged and shown on the right. For you Corgi collectors, this set is a must have.

And the last new Russian local is this outstanding brindle Cardigan from Kalmykia. Kalmykia is a republic within the Russian Federation. The Kalmyks settled the Volga River region in the seventeenth century. A Mongol people, they were originally Buddhist in faith. Annexed to Russian in 1771, a Kalmyk Autonomous Province was created by the Bolsheviks in 1920. This was abolished during the Second World War, when, in common with many other ethnic minorities, the Kalmyks were deemed to have displayed insufficient enthusiasm for fighting for Communism. The customary mass deportations followed. An Autonomous Republic was re-established in 1958.
This stamp is smaller than the others, but so unique in its coloring and style and was issued by Kalmykia in 1982.

Karelia put out both of the above puppy stamps in 2000.
Karelia is on the northwest corner of Russia, bordering Finland, to which it once belonged.
The Republic of Karelia is a remarkably beautiful land of white nights, boundless forests, and blue lakes. It is located on the border of Western and Eastern Europe, on the border of cultures and religions. Severe beauty of its nature, the climate, not too favourable in these latitudes, the coexistence and intermingling of various peoples inhabiting this land for centuries all that conditioned the character of the people living here: very laconic, self-assured, contemplative, and tolerant people. It also accounts for the fact that there is no national strife and terrorism in this land.

The Komi Republic is situated in the extreme North-East part of Russia. It is a multinational state, since the population of Komi Republic is estimated at 1.2 million citizen and consists of 100 nationalities. The Komi Republic is now a democratic legal state included into the Russian Federation. The republic has unique stocks of mineral resources thanks to their location, diversity and quality.

The above head study was issued by Koriakia in 1999.
Koriakia and Kolyma Region, going southwest we cross huge ecotone between artic tundra and boreal forests. Zonal vegetation here is very specific unique for the world thickets of Siberian Dwarf Pine. The Pines produce cones with nuts and are the intial component for a lot of food chains. The weather in summer is mainly good, however sometimes in chilly evenings it is more comfortable in a sweater; also need in warm weather rain clothes and high rubber boots in most areas. problems are mosquitos and ticks. Local Russians take vaccines against these.

The breakup of the Soviet Republic has been a gold mine for topical stamp collectors, since the governments see a chance to earn hard currency by issuing stamps that will be bought by collectors without having to provide mail service with them. Whatever the reason, this is a wonderful stamp issued by Kyrgyzstan for the Corgis in 1998.
Welsh Corgi Kyrgyzstan Stamp
Also from a Russian local state of Kyrgyzstan, is the lovely Pembroke above. It should remain available, although the stability of the local governments is not assured.

Montserrat (Island), dependency of the United Kingdom, with 39 square miles in area, is one of the Leeward Islands of the Lesser Antilles, in the Caribbean Sea. Montserrat is located southwest of Antigua and northwest of Guadeloupe. A governor administers the dependency with the assistance of executive and legislative councils.
The island was first sighted by Christopher Columbus in 1493 and was named by him for a noted monastery on Montserrat, a mountain in Spain. Once known as the Emerald Isle of the Caribbean, Montserrat may have to find a new nickname. After more than 350 years of quiet, most of the island is now covered with a dull gray sheet of ash after the devastating eruptions of the Soufriere Hills Volcano that took place beginning in late June 1997. The volcanic eruptions devastated the island's economy and the British government sent financial aid and provided supplies to build housing for the remaining population of about 4,000. In spite of all the problems, this beautiful stamp has been issued in 2000.

The State of Oman is another one of the United Arab Emirates. This stamp was issued to comemorate the Royal Wedding of HRH Princess Anne to Captain Mark Phillips, on November 14, 1973. Very impressive, to say the least. I had only one of these stamps and they are now unvailable.
Welsh Corgi Oman Stamp
This is included simply because it was one of the only overprints that were available in past years, in this case 1993. There was a limited number released to the outside world and then they were all gone. These scans are for historical significance only since the originals are absolute collector's items now. Be sure to get a set of the new overprints. As far as I know, there were 100 of each overprint available and the small number of those that I was able to get will be gone very quickly.

Sharjah is also a member of the United Arab Emirates and was one of the first to honor the Corgi with this Cardigan in 1968. Sharjah is the third largest of the seven states, which forms the United Arab Emirates which became fully independent in 1971. From that time, it has attracted attention -- first because of its oil reserves and its strategic location but now in addition to those, because of its program of economic and social development. In the last quarter of the twentieth century, the UAE has witnessed the creation of a truly modern welfare state. Education, health care and social services are available to all citizens. Fortunately, the above stamp can still be found.

S.Tome E. Principe put out this set of Corgis in 1995. Although it has been out for a while, they are not at all common. Each stamp has an adult, a puppy and a kitten. The following information was acquired from the 1968 English Cardigan Club Yearbook. This particular stamp is a photo by Sally Anne Thompson. The adult dog on the right is CH. PIM OF CRITUM. The puppy to the left is CH. PIM as a puppy. The Corgi got a calico kitten for some reason.
Sao Tome E Principe was discovered and claimed by Portugal in the late 15th century, the islands' sugar-based economy gave way to coffee and cocoa in the 19th century - all grown with plantation slave labor, a form of which lingered into the 20th century. Although independence was achieved in 1975, democratic reforms were not instituted until the late 1980s. Though the first free elections were held in 1991, the political environment has been one of continued instability with frequent changes in leadership and coup attempts in 1995 and 2003. The recent discovery of oil in the Gulf of Guinea is likely to have a significant impact on the country's economy. Located in Western Africa, islands in the Gulf of Guinea, straddling the Equator, west of Gabon. It is more than 5 times the size of Wahington, D.C. The climate is tropical; hot humid; one rainy season (October to May).

This is an older stamp again, from 1983. Staffa is another island off the coast of Scotland that issues topical stamps. Another Pembroke, it is one of only two black coated ones.

This is a much more recent issue, in 1997, of a Pembroke from Tanzania in Africa. Tanzania, the largest country in East Africa, is renowned for its magnificent wildlife, lakes, mountains, and scenery. The country boasts a wealth of natural attractions, including the famed Ngorongoro crater and the formidable Mount Kilimanjaro. It is also home to magnificent game reserves: Gombe Stream National Park, with its chimpanzee sanctuary; and the breathtaking plains of the Serengeti National Park, which hosts the annual migration of at least two million wildebeest with leopards and lions hot on their heels. Add to this the lovely beaches of the exotic islands of Zanzibar, Pemba, and Mafia. Tanzania recently issued a couple different sets of dog stamps, all with headstudies, including the one shown above.Fairly common.

Tatarstan is one of the former Russian states along the Volga River. It has been independent since 1994, but even a thousand years ago, it was known as Islam's Northern Mecca. The set of stamps that this Corgi is from was issued in 1999 and was just the first of several new sets from that country.

In 1999, Turks and Caicos put out an interesting set of dog stamps that had each dog doing the work that it was intended for. The Greyhound was a Racing Dog, the Huskey was a sled dog, etc. For some reason, the Corgi is listed as a hearing dog. Although I don't doubt that they would be excellent at it, I was not aware that Corgis were known for that talent.
The Turks & Caicos Islands, part of the British West Indies, are a dependency of Great Britain (as noted by the crown in the upper right corner of the stamp) and are located at the SE end of the Bahama Islands. Of about 50 Islands, only six are inhabited. The estimated population, in 1999, is 16,863.

The Corgi from Udmurtia is as nice as any of our stamps. Udmurtia is approximately midway between Moscow to the Urals. Its land is a hilly wooden plain with numerous swamps, springs and rivers. Its climate is a bit too wet and not healthy. Summer is short, rainy and cool, autumn is very cloudy (often there are almost no sunny days from October till January), foggy and rainy. This not very friendly land was originally inhabited by Udmurts (or Votyaks). These peaceful and quiet Finnish people maintained their culture heritage there at least for five thousand years. Their religion is also ancient. They worship the God (called Inmar, The Highest Being) and His assistants governing various elements. With the desolution of the Soviet Union, Udmurtia became one of the local republics and as such they now issue stamps including this lovely Corgi. I don't have any other information on it, except that it was issued in 1998.

These babies are from Yakutia, another local Russian state. Most people know Yakutia from the game of Risk along with Kamchatka and Irikutz. Actually, Yakutia is the largest region in Siberia, known as Sasha-Yakutia. This stamp was issued in 2000 and should remain available.

Zambia become an independent nation in 1964, and this stamp was issued by Zambia in 1999.
The territory of Northern Rhodesia was administered by the South Africa Company from 1891 until it was taken over by the UK in 1923. during the 1920s and 1930s, advances in mining spurred development and immigration. The name was changed to Zambia upon independence in 1924. Zambia is in Aouthern Africa, east of Angola. It is slightly larger than Texas. The climate is tropical; modified by altitude; rainy season (October to April). It has a couple of natural hazards: periodic draught, tropical storms (November to April). The capital of Zambia is Lusaka.
